What is Whois Verification?<\/h2>\n

Whois verification is a process required by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) to ensure that the email address linked to a domain name is valid and belongs to the domain owner (called the Registrant).<\/p>\n

This rule applies to all gTLDs<\/strong> (generic top-level domains like .com, .net, .org) and nTLDs<\/strong> (newer domain extensions like .xyz, .online), but not<\/strong> to ccTLDs<\/strong> (country-code domains like .uk, .ca).<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd52 When Does Verification Happen?<\/h2>\n

Verification is required within 15 days<\/strong> if any of the following occurs:<\/p>\n

  • A new domain is registered with an unverified email address.<\/li>\n
  • A domain is transferred from another registrar.<\/li>\n
  • The Registrant contact is changed to someone with an unverified email.<\/li>\n
  • The Registrant\u2019s email address is updated to an unverified one.<\/li>\n
  • A domain is moved to another account and ends up with an unverified email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \ud83d\udce9 What Happens Next?<\/h2>\n

    • An email is automatically sent<\/strong> to the Registrant\u2019s email address asking them to verify it.<\/li>\n
    • If the email is not verified within 15 days<\/strong>, the domain will be deactivated<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    • The domain will then show a page explaining why it\u2019s inactive and how to fix it.<\/li>\n
    • Once the email is verified, the domain will be reactivated<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
