What is Whois Verification?

Whois verification is a process required by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) to ensure that the email address linked to a domain name is valid and belongs to the domain owner (called the Registrant).

This rule applies to all gTLDs (generic top-level domains like .com, .net, .org) and nTLDs (newer domain extensions like .xyz, .online), but not to ccTLDs (country-code domains like .uk, .ca).

🕒 When Does Verification Happen?

Verification is required within 15 days if any of the following occurs:

  • A new domain is registered with an unverified email address.
  • A domain is transferred from another registrar.
  • The Registrant contact is changed to someone with an unverified email.
  • The Registrant’s email address is updated to an unverified one.
  • A domain is moved to another account and ends up with an unverified email.

📩 What Happens Next?

  • An email is automatically sent to the Registrant’s email address asking them to verify it.
  • If the email is not verified within 15 days, the domain will be deactivated.
  • The domain will then show a page explaining why it’s inactive and how to fix it.
  • Once the email is verified, the domain will be reactivated.

🔧 What Can You Do During the 15 Days?

From your Reseller or Customer Control Panel, you can:

  • ✅ Update the Registrant’s contact details.
  • 🔁 Re-send the verification email if it wasn’t received.
